404 Error When Deployed

Apr 7, 2009 at 4:16 PM
I followed the install instructions.
I'm running it on Win Server 2003, IIS6 with 2005 SQL Back end.
When I go to the url Root/default.aspx I expect to see the default page, but what I see is the custom 404 page for whatever the url is.  So does anyone know what I am missing?
I changed the root in the web.config.

Any help, or point me to some more indepth install instructions?

Thanks

Switch customErrors off (in web.config) and see what the actual exception is. Maybe you did not switch to ASP.NET 2.0 Integrated Pipeline in IIS?

Ok, at first I got 500 server error, but was not logging anything in the Web log or event log.
Now I am getting  "XML Parsing Error: no element found"

I am missing something, I'm sure.  this is my first deployment of an MVC app.  What do you mean by switching to ASP.NET 2.0 Integrated Pipeline in IIS?

Thanks for your help

Hi jsaski,

Is there more info about what XML element is missing? At first I didn't notice that you are using IIS 6. There's no Integrated Mode there. Try this: http://haacked.com/archive/2008/11/26/asp.net-mvc-on-iis-6-walkthrough.aspx

Pawel.

THANK YOU!  That is exactly what it was, without the wild card mapping the extension less URLs will not work.  I knew as a MVC newbie that I was missing something basic.

Thanks again, (and to Haack Too)
